Entry Deadline: November 1, 2024
Register online at Sylacauga.Recdesk.com, over the phone (256.249.8561), or in-person at the J. Craig Smith Community Center. Only ONE PERSON (your team leader) should register your team.
Entry Fee: $75/team
Competition Date: November 16, 2024
Entry will be limited to 25 teams.
Award Categories:
Tailgate Specialty (must be cooked on site; does not have to be meat; voted on by people’s choice)
Most Creative Cooking Booth (voted on by people’s choice)
Judging: For this competition, judging is completely people’s choice - so it’s your job to encourage attendance!
Tailgate specialty: This can be any dish you can come up with that can be cooked on site. It does not have to be a meat dish, so get creative! Prepare for at least 100 people. The top three winners will receive a cash prize.
You provide:
Teams are responsible for their own ingredients, cookware, grill, appliances and tent. If using a grill, you may cook with gas, charcoal or wood.
You will need to comply with the following Health Department regulations:
Keep raw food items that need to be kept cold at 45 degrees or colder.
Keep raw food items that need to be kept warm at 140 degrees or warmer.
Keep a food thermometer in each of your containers to monitor temperatures.
Dispose of your hot coals in designated buckets marked for coal only.
Leave your cooking area as you found it free of trash.
Persons who handle food should wear gloves and use utensils. Food handlers need to wash before the food is touched and after the food is touched. Hand washing station will be provided.
A mild bleach and water solution can be used to wipe tables and utensils.
A team member must remain at the fire area at all times.
SPARD will provide:
One 8-foot table
Each team will have the 10x10 tent space as well as a 10x10 space beside the tent for the grills.
Sample containers and utensils for the public sampling.
Trash cans.
Barrels for hot coal disposal.

1st place - $500
2nd place -$250
3rd place - $100
PRIZE - Most Creative Cooking Booth
1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies
Public Entry & Voting
Tickets will be sold to the public at $10/ticket. Each attendee will receive a wristband for tasting, 1 ticket for voting for Tailgate Specialty, and 1 ticket for voting for Most Creative Cooking Booth.
Schedule

11:00 AM - Tasting/voting and live music begins
1:00 PM - Tasting/voting ends
1:00 - 2:00 PM - Music continues while votes are tallied. Winners will be announced no later than 2:00 PM.
