Sylacauga Parks & Recreation is encouraging the community to start the new year moving at the Trail to a New You 5K, set for Saturday, January 24, 2026, at the scenic Sylaward Trail at Lake Howard.

This free run/walk 5K is open to participants of all ages and experience levels. Whether you’re an experienced runner, a casual jogger, or simply looking to enjoy a morning walk outdoors, this event is for you. While it’s officially a race, participants are welcome to walk the course and go at their own pace—making it a fun and inclusive way to embrace healthy habits in the new year.

The race will begin at 9:00 a.m., with packet pick-up available from 7:30–8:30 a.m. prior to the race. Participants can enjoy 3.1 miles of fresh air and beautiful lakeside views as they kick off 2026 with movement and community spirit.

Advance registration is required but completely free and can be completed online at Sylacauga.Recdesk.com or by calling 256.249.8561.

All registered participants will receive a race pack and goodie bag, and water stations and first aid support will be available along the course. Medals will be awarded to first- and second-place finishers in each of the following divisions:
-School-Age Boys & Girls
-Adult Men & Women (ages 19+)
-Senior Men & Women (ages 50+)
